Each year on April 22, the world pauses to celebrate Earth Day — a moment to reflect, reset, and recommit. At Taylor, we take this moment seriously because we believe it’s not just about one day of awareness, but about showing up daily as temporary custodians of the planet. That mindset is embedded into how we operate, partner with, and help others do better, too.
Why It Matters to Us
Caring for the planet isn’t a trend — it’s a responsibility. Our team understands supply chain directly connects to carbon emissions, packaging waste, and energy use. That’s why we’ve ensured sustainability is not just a side conversation, but a key part of our business.
Our people are invested. From tracking energy and recycling metrics at every site to creating reporting dashboards that turn data into action — sustainability is integrated into our daily rhythm.
Building a Smarter Supply Chain
The supply chain touches nearly every part of the economy — and every part of the environment. According to McKinsey, up to 90% of an organization’s greenhouse gas emissions can be traced to its supply chain. That’s why we focus our efforts across all scopes of emissions — direct, indirect, and those generated throughout the value chain (Scope 1, 2, and 3).
Here’s how we’re making an impact:
- Scope Emissions Tracking: We’ve invested in tools to track all three scopes of emissions, allowing us to surface and reduce environmental impact at every touchpoint — from the energy in our warehouses to vendor transportation strategies.
- Vendor Education & Alignment: We help suppliers understand how to reduce emissions through smarter routing, packaging consolidation, and transparent data sharing.
- Customer Reporting Tools: Our customers have access to reporting that includes sustainability metrics, so they can align their supply chains with their own ESG goals.
Greener Transportation with SmartWay
Through our SmartWay partnership with the U.S. EPA, our fleet operates with fuel efficiency and emissions reduction in mind. SmartWay-certified carriers have helped avoid more than 143 million metric tons of emissions since the program began. At Taylor, that means leveraging anti-idling tech, optimizing route planning, and continually upgrading equipment to meet stricter fuel-efficiency standards.
Learning + Leading with Supplier LOCT
We participate in the Supplier Leadership on Climate Transition (LOCT) program to sharpen our approach to carbon accounting and Scope 3 engagement. This initiative equips our team to lead conversations on climate data — not just internally, but across our supplier base. The goal? Empowering more sustainable sourcing and delivery decisions across the entire chain.
It’s not about being perfect. It’s about progress.
Sustainability is a long game. But at Taylor, we’re in it for the long haul — with a team that cares, a system built to track impact, and a mission that recognizes our role in shaping a better, cleaner future.
This Earth Day, we’re doubling down on measurable change, supply chain transparency, and doing our part — so future generations can move forward, too.
